Our R&D team represents a fundamental asset for the business. It is divided into integrated functional areas focusing on pipeline projects including discovery and preclinical research, global technical development, drug delivery technology, clinical development, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, intellectual property, quality assurance, R&D Strategy, Portfolio & Digital Development. Headquartered in the new purpose-built and fully integrated Research and Development Centre in Parma (Italy), the team also has important operations in Paris (France), Chippenham (UK), Cary (US), Stockholm (Sweden), Toronto (Canada) and Shanghai (China).
Who we are looking for
This is what you will do
The R&D Bioinformatician Lead drives and executes hands-on bioinformatics analyses in support of target identification and translational research across programs. The role includes full methodological ownership, with responsibility for shaping and applying advanced bioinformatics strategies aligned with functional plans across therapeutic areas.
The R&D Bioinformatician Lead collaborates in the definition of bioinformatics activities and is accountable for executing those agreed with the functional Lead, in accordance with the organic functional plans. Responsibilities include delivering analyses, refining methodologies, and ensuring rigor in all data-driven outputs.
You will be responsible for
- Lead and execute hands-on bioinformatics analyses, with a focus on methodological rigor, reproducibility, and impact
- Act as methodological lead for bioinformatics approaches, independently selecting and implementing appropriate pipelines, tools, and workflows
- Supports target identification and validation through computational analyses across diverse data types, while proactively monitoring external collaborations and acting as a key liaison
- Collaborate with translational leads to define bioinformatics activities in line with the organic translational development plans
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of the agreed bioinformatics activities and communicate findings effectively to cross-functional teams
- Maintain strong technical expertise in current bioinformatics trends, proposing innovations and improvements proactively
- Facilitate interpretation of complex datasets to support analytical insights and data-driven strategies
- Contribute to publications, regulatory documents, and internal presentations with data-driven evidence
You will need to have
- PhD or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in biomedical settings
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in applying bioinformatics to biological and clinical datasets
- Proven ability to work independently within a matrix organization
- Strong proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., R, Python) and bioinformatics tools/workflows (e.g., RNA-seq, pathway analysis, NGS data)
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to align activities with functional leads and drive consensus
Location
The position is based in the HQ in Parma with hybrid working arrangements including working in presence and remote working.
