In the role of Formulation Scientist you will serve as technical resource to support the pharmaceutical development (formulation and process) of New Chemical Entities for inhalation focusing on candidate selection and formulation feasibility for early clinical phase. Moreover, the Formulation Scientist will be involved in the development of novel formulation platforms and lifecycle management activities.
The Formulation Scientist will actively support an environment of formulation, technical innovation, and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to details, and the ability to follow often complex operating procedures. Some work experience in a job that requires these skills is preferred (such as R&D environment, development of inhaled formulations etc.); however different backgrounds will be considered.

Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Formulation and Process Development, the Formulation Scientist serves as technical resource to support the pharmaceutical development (formulation and process) of New Chemical Entities for inhalation focusing on candidate selection and formulation feasibility for early clinical phase. Moreover, the Formulation Scientist will be involved in the development of novel formulation platforms and lifecycle management activities.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to details, and the ability to follow often complex operating procedures. Some work experience in a job that requires these skills is preferred (such as R&D environment, development of inhaled formulations etc.); however different backgrounds will be considered.

The Formulation Scientist will work within a mixed matrix team (Project management, QA, QC, Analytical etc.) and external contractors to support the development activities to achieve project objectives. This individual will be involved in technical support regarding cGMP compliance and process improvements.
Profile
- Life Sciences degree required.
- Good understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards for formulation and testing performed in formulation laboratories.
- Experience in formulation of inhalation products (DPI, pMDI, nebulized product) is a bonus.
- Experience in particle engineering and/or powder mixing.
- Experience in inhalation product performance and characterization testing, and/or solid-state material characterization.
- Knowledge of solid-state chemistry and powder physical properties desired.
- Be able to support the design of appropriate formulation and stability studies including the use of QbD where appropriate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work globally and under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in and collaborate in a team environment.
- Sense of urgency (Action oriented/drives for results).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Team oriented/strong team player building positive relationships with others.
- Ability to work in an international team and under tight deadlines, including some travelling.

Main Responsibilities
- Support and collaborate to project specific respiratory product development laboratory activities.
- Execute appropriate formulation and stability studies, following technical protocols.
- Support the design and execution of experimental protocols in a timely manner and in compliance with company requirements including the reporting of results and findings.
- Study monitoring activities of specific outsourced activities.
- Writing and Reviewing of SOPs, Work Instructions and Risk Assessments.
- Develop knowledge to build expertise.
- Support and collaborate with an analytical and device focused team.
- Manage own workload and assignments to meet all internal and external deadlines for maximum efficiency and accuracy.
- Comply with all aspects of site and company Health and Safety.
Working Environment
- 20% normal office and meeting room conditions.
- 80% laboratory and manufacturing environment including exposure to active raw materials and finished products.
- Must be able to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as deemed necessary by current company and site Health and Safety procedures.
- Some off shift and weekend work will be expected if required; there are requirements for occasional travel within the UK and abroad to support projects.
