Chiesi Global Rare Diseases

 

Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is a Chiesi Group’s business unit established in February 2020 and focused on research, development and commercialization of treatments and patient support services for rare and ultra-rare disorders, many of whom have limited or no treatments available.

This unit is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with a strong synergy with the headquarters in Parma.

Chiesi Rare Disease medical affairs, in partnership with other rare disease functions, helps generate and communicate scientific data to inform medical practice across our rare disease therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve measurable and meaningful patient outcomes.

This position is an important member of the Global Medical Affairs team who will contribute to the design of the global medical affairs strategy for the product/s in the dermatology area, and will lead on the development and execution of Medical Affairs strategies and tactics in the Europe and International (EU&Int) region, in alignment with overall business goals. This individual will report to the Global Medical Director, Dermatology, Chiesi Global Rare Diseases.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Global Medical Affairs strategy and lead on the development and execution of the EU and Int regional medical strategy by ensuring short- and long-term medical objectives are aligned with the global medical strategy and overall business goals (for dermatology)
  • Closely collaborate with Regional Medical Leads, local affiliates and business partners/distributors with the implementation of the EU&Int regional medical plans ensuring alignment with global strategies and regional EU&Int business goals
  • Collaborate with both the Global Medical Director and the Clinical Program Leader to proactively identify evidence gaps, define data generation plans to orient and support company-sponsored research and to allow for prioritization of investigator-initiated research
  • Lead on the implementation of insights collection within the EU&Int region in close partnership with Regional Medical Leads, country affiliates and business partners and ensure actionable insights are incorporated in strategic planning processes
  • Contribute to the development of publication and communication strategy in close collaboration with Global Scientific Communication team and Global Medical Director ensuring regional needs are included in the global scientific communication strategy
  • Maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, in collaboration with medical affairs teams in the country affiliates, with field visits, medical and research collaboration with specific investigators and institutions
  • Represent Chiesi at meetings and conferences, and interactions with KOLs in collaboration with other functions
  • Participate in meetings and proactively contribute as a medical affairs core member to represent the EU&Int region in the brand team, core team meetings and other relevant cross functional working groups, as assigned
  • Establish a close partnership with the regional EU&Int brand team and proactively contribute to the development of the integrated regional brand strategy ensuring alignment of the integrated plan with current medical and scientific unmet needs 
  • Collaborate and support patient advocacy in the definition of patient related activities aimed at fulfilling patients’ specific unmet needs 
  • Collaborate and proactively contribute with multiple stakeholders (internal & external) to design and implement projects aimed at increasing disease awareness and improving patient identification 
  • Collaborate with the Global Scientific Communication team to design and update disease-focused and product-focused training materials and drive high quality training sessions for relevant audiences within local affiliates and business partners in EU&Int
  • Develop and maintain the best expertise of the assigned therapeutic area through self-study, company-provided training and scientific meeting attendance in order to enhance the contribution to the company
  • As a subject matter expert, review medical and promotional materials to ensure scientific accuracy and overall alignment with strategy and messaging in compliance with corporate standards and industry regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory guidelines, code of practices and company SOPs to ensure adherence with corporate standards and government/industry regulations
  • Provide medical support to global value & market access & local affiliates during pricing & reimbursement activities
  • Manage resources and budget related to specific product initiatives, programs and activities in the EU&Int region

Experience Required

  • At least 5-8 years of medical affairs experience 
  • Prior working experience in rare diseases is preferred
  • Previous experience in clinical research will be considered a plus 
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities in combination with great attention to detail as well as the ability to prioritize in a changing environment with a sense of urgency

Education

Completion of an advanced degree is preferred - MD, PhD, PharmD

Languages

Fluent in written and spoken English 

Location and Travel

This position is based in Europe, with expected international travel of 30-40%
