Who we are looking for
Purpose
We are seeking a skilled and strategic Scientific Communications Strategist for the position of Global Scientific Communications and Medical Education Associate Director/Lead. They will lead the development and execution of communication strategies that effectively translate complex scientific research into compelling narratives for diverse audiences. They will lead and oversee the scientific communications and medical education function and strategy of brands within the Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSD) portfolio at Chiesi Global Rare Diseases (GRD). This role will partner closely with the internal cross functional teams and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and impactful communications across various platforms. This individual will report to the Global Head of Scientific Communications and Medical Education (Portfolio).
This is a hybrid position that can be based in Boston, North America (US/Canada). It will require approximate 30% (domestic / international) travel.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the global publication strategy while engaging key stakeholders (i.e., clinical development, authors etc.) to disseminate key scientific data/information through high-impact peer review journals, congresses, digital and other scientific platforms.
- Strong ability to critically analyze, interpret and communicate clinical trial and published data to support the strategies for key brands.
- Drive data generation initiatives (e.g., post-hoc, RWE) to address evidence gaps.
- Ensure ethical, transparent publication practices per ICMJE and GPP guidelines.
- Lead the management of external publication agencies and vendors ensuring timely and high-quality output of all publications.
- Lead the internal review and approval of all Chiesi supported scientific publications with other internal stakeholders (i.e., Medical Affairs, Legal/IP, Clinical Development etc.).
- Provide strategic direction for scientific content and educational programs for GRD brands, enhancing visibility and credibility.
- Leverages insights and expertise in disease area by translating/generating data and medical messaging to develop an integrated evidence generation plan for brands.
- Facilitate strategic workshops to shape communications and medical strategies.
- Develop and implement strategic, compliant medical education programs and CME initiatives.
- Lead global training aligned with adult learning principles, including annual training plans.
- Ensure consistency, clarity, and scientific integrity across all communication materials for both internal and external use.
- Lead congress strategy, including playbooks, internal training, and external program execution.
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of company-sponsored congress symposia and other external-facing educational programs (i.e., Standalones).
- Serve as a strategic advisor and liaison to internal teams and external stakeholders regarding the scientific communications and medical educational content.
- Foster relationships with KOLs, HCPs, and academic partners to enhance the reach of scientific communication/medical education while maintaining high standards and ensuring scientific integrity and credibility.
- Critical review of assets developed by other internal stakeholders in ensuring consistency and accuracy of messaging and communication of data (i.e., review of Market Access dossiers, patient-support materials etc.)
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for efficient execution.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and leverage digital tools for innovation.
Experience Required
Required Experience:
- Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD or MD).
- 3+ years of experience in scientific communications, medical education, or related roles, preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare sectors. Preference will be given to candidates with experience gained beyond fellowship training.
Preferred Experience:
- Proven experience in developing and executing high-level strategies for both scientific communications and medical education.
- Clinical and scientific expertise in LSD therapeutics areas is a plus
- Strong understanding of global standards for scientific communications and medical education as well as well as local compliance codes (e.g., GPP, ICMJE, FDA/EMA etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging content.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with an array of relevant stakeholders, including KOLs, healthcare professionals.
- Experience managing digital platforms for medical education and scientific communications.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to interact cross functionally.
- Experience in working with professional medical societies and academic institutions.
- Certified Medical Publication Professional™(CMPP™) qualified or meets the CMPP™ eligibility requirements to seek qualification.
