Who we are looking for

Purpose

The Head of Medical Strategic Operations will provide strategic and operational project management support for high-priority global medical initiatives, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Global Medical Affairs (GMA). This role focuses on executing complex organizational projects, enhancing operational efficiency, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration to support GMA’s objectives.     

Main Responsibilities

Management of Strategic and Operational Above-brand Initiatives

  • Program Management of Priority Organizational Initiatives: Drives major above-TA medical initiatives defined by SVP of GMA such as implementation of the Medical Affairs operating model and Medical capabilities development, KPI setting and measurement, and management of the Medical planning process
    • Serve as the central coordinator, ensuring projects align with SVP of GMA / MALT priorities and meet deadlines
    • Manage internal and external resources, ensuring timely delivery of impactful outcomes while adhering to compliance and governance standards
    • Develop and maintain systems to track the progress of these priorities, ensuring transparency and alignment with overarching business objectives
  • Global Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate closely with global leaders, including regional and functional heads, to facilitate alignment, development and implementation of priorities and deliverables
    • Act as a liaison to facilitate communication between the SVP of Global Medical Affairs and the broader organization
    • Facilitate the decision-making process of priorities, creation of strategic agendas and ensure follow-up on action items across stakeholder groups
    • Provide leadership with periodic updates on progress, risks, and resource needs to drive strategic decision-making

Oversight and management of overall Medical resourcing and budget: 

  • Support setting and tracking of the GMA budget
    • Create budget tools, processes and training together with Finance business partner
    • Partner with finance and leadership to monitor spending and reconcile budgets and spend
    • Ensure clear documentation and compliance with financial policies 
  • Develop tools and processes to support allocation of GMA resources to assets and initiatives to optimize the use of Chiesi GRD resources

Experience Required

  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in project management, medical/commercial operations, or a similar role within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare industry, including at least 3 years in Medical Affairs
    • Experience in organization excellence, design or transformation (e.g., management consulting, human resources, portfolio management) preferred
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify patterns, trends and themes and identify, evaluate and summarize preferred solutions
    • Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to manage complex workflows and solve problems effectively
    • Expertise in project management tools and systems
    • Proven knowledge of medical, pharmaceutical, or healthcare processes, including regulatory requirements and compliance standards
  • Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence across a matrixed organization
    • Excellent facilitation skills, with the ability to drive diverse leaders to consensus 
    • Self-directed with a proven ability to drive alignment on shared objectives
    • Highly organized with strong workload planning skills, capable of balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Communication Skills: 
    • Superior written and verbal communication abilities, tailored to diverse internal and external stakeholders
    • Ability to simplify and communicate complex issues
       

Education

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Life Sciences, Business Administration) preferred
