Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison, Special Care has the primary responsibility of building key opinion leader (KOL) partnerships by engaging in the exchange of published scientific data and other medical and/or scientific information with external stakeholders (HCPs, researchers, professional organization leadership, and formulary decision-makers) in the Neonatology and Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Areas (TAs). Scientific engagements include establishing and maintaining educational and research collaborations; delivery of clinical, scientific, and technical education; building long term peer to peer relationships with key stakeholders by establishing rapport and providing scientific education.

Main Responsibilities
External Relationship Management & Development:
• Build external partnerships with recognized community and academic medical center KOLs to identify and address scientific needs and to stay abreast of current scientific trends in Neonatology and Cystic Fibrosis
• Identify and develop key thought leaders (national, regional and local) for medical education and clinical research opportunities
• Identify and build new collaborative KOL relationships for advisory boards, company-sponsored and investigator initiated research and speaker development
• Identify opportunities and provide medical support including scientific education to healthcare professionals (HCPs) at key institutions
• Foster professional relationships in key institutions and/or medical societies for Chiesi USA, within an assigned geography
Medical Affairs & Therapeutic Area Support:
• Represent Chiesi USA Medical Affairs at national, regional and local scientific meetings/congresses, supporting and engaging in high-quality scientific exchange
• Serve as a conduit for appropriately communicating accurate and up-to-date scientific and medical information between external stakeholders and the Chiesi Medical Affairs group
• Provide field-based medical affairs assistance for clinical research initiatives supported by Company or related to investigator Initiated trials
• Deliver expert-level medical education presentations in a variety of settings
Gather and disseminate competitive intelligence from multiple sources in accordance with Company policies
Project Teams & Collaboration:
• Partner cross-functionally to optimize product strategy alignment by providing appropriate medical and scientific support to interdepartmental projects
• Contribute to publication planning, clinical research, medical education material development as well as internal training initiatives
• Participate in internal therapeutic advisory groups and project teams
Other:
• Must be willing to travel up to 75% (air/car); this is including overnight stays and occasional weekend travel
• Accurate and timely completion of all administrative reports, projects and required training
• Participate in continuing education to maintain high level expertise in the assigned therapeutic areas
Experience Required
- 3+ years’ clinical experience in Neonatology, and/or Cystic Fibrosis preferred
- Established track record of effective and influential oral presentations within the healthcare profession
- Demonstration of proficiency in key skills and competencies, including exceptional clinical and pharmacoeconomic knowledge
- Demonstrates broad therapeutic competency - stays current on trends and new information in the profession
- Highly articulate and persuasive during formal and informal presentations; able to convey complex, scientific ideas fluently to any audience
- Has the ability to tactfully provide scientifically sound, constructive feedback to national, regional and local thought leaders and speakers
- Actively listens to others and is adept at confidently stating expert opinion while respecting the positions of others - can exert diplomacy while standing firm on a position
- Builds and leverages strategic internal and external relationships to identify potential opportunities, partnerships and opportunities to provide value and improve quality of care for providers and patients
- Utilizes effective, professional communications to cultivate strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues
- Is able to work effectively on multi–disciplinary teams in order to achieve desired outcomes
- Skillfully plans, prioritizes and executes multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision in a highly dynamic work environment
- Maintains a positive attitude during challenging situations
Education
- Completion of a graduate level degree (Pharm.D., M.D., D.O., MS or equivalent) is required as well as relevant residency and/or fellowship experience
The base salary range for this position is $145,000-$175,000 plus annual performance bonus eligibility. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including and not limited to specific and relevant experience, credentials, geography and subject matter expertise.
