Purpose
The primary responsibility for this role is strategic leadership on the Respiratory US Medical Affairs team to deliver the medical operating plan in coordination with Global Medical Affairs deliverables across the therapeutic area. The Senior Medical Director brings his/her leadership skills, technical expertise and an in-depth understanding of medicine development and lifecycle to bear on all COPD and Asthma related activities. Coordinating with Global Medical Affairs and local cross-functional colleagues (Payer, Marketing and New Product Planning), he/she provides medical leadership to support successful product development, medical launch and product commercialization, while putting the patient first within the Chiesi Values and Behaviors framework.
Main Responsibilities
- Leads the development and execution of the US Respiratory Medical Affairs operating plan, while providing medical leadership as appropriate on cross-functional teams supporting local and global clinical, medical, and commercial development plans.
- Represents US Medical Affairs on Respiratory-related cross-functional teams and develops and execute US medical strategies for phase IV research including RWE and data generation plans, as well as promotional review board and/or committees.
- Ensures seamless and coordinated partnership between Internal and Respiratory Field Medical Affairs leadership to achieve integration of insights into strategy development and execution of local medical plans. Establishes new and growing existing critical external relationships with US thought leaders and professional societies in the respiratory therapeutic area. Leads and executes successful Medical advisory boards, congress-related symposia, and congress planning
- As appropriate, participates in Medical Affairs Respiratory Team consisting of cross-functional medical colleagues including provides medical input on US labeling and regulatory interactions
- Ensures timely and appropriate management of the US Medical budget including project spend Mentors and coaches’ other colleagues, as appropriate.
Experience Required
- 5+ years of relevant work experience; experience in Medical Affairs with increasing levels of responsibility with leadership preferred. Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically, with tactical execution.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to influence, work and align with multiple Chiesi-internal and external stakeholders, and build and navigate within cross-functional Chiesi teams.
- Proven planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities in combination with great attention to detail as well as the ability to prioritize in a changing environment with a sense of urgency.
- Deep understanding of HCP and Payer informational needs and what is required to support these needs including promotional review boards or committees.
- Extensive knowledge of patterns of medical practice, healthcare delivery and the current and evolving landscape within the US will be required.
- Candidate will need to demonstrate credibility and presence based on their knowledge of all aspects of Medical Affairs. Experience in both clinical development and patient care is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of complex diseases and the associated medical challenges to provide expert insight establish and drive the disease vision by rigorous scientific debates with medical thought leaders.
- Well-organized, operationally effective, and able to both develop project strategies and ensure reliable implementation of projects with a flexible and solution-driven attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining successful stakeholder relationships (internal and external)
- Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries
- Prior experience working on a launch product in a respiratory disease is preferred
- Proficiency in public speaking
Education
- MD, DO, PhD or PharmD professional degree required.
