Purpose
The Director, Market Access will lead the launch development of Chiesi’s respiratory product portfolio and build and oversee a best-in-class strategy to ensure access and reimbursement of Chiesi’s products.
Main Responsibilities
Development and Implementation of Strategic Market Access Functions:
- Develop comprehensive access and reimbursement strategies for Chiesi Respiratory products in the US.
- Lead initiatives to understand, analyze and demonstrate the clinical, economic and societal value to payers, decision-makers and influencers.
- Identify main external stakeholders and establish relationships with influencers and decision makers to facilitate optimal access for new products
- Develop the US market access value proposition and value dossier for Chiesi USA portfolio including respiratory products and advocate on data and publication opportunities that ensure access
- Build and lead Market Access team to support Chiesi USA portfolio including respiratory products.
- Participate/liaise with global value and access representing Chiesi USA
- Interact closely with Product Managers and commercial team to develop payer marketing strategies, tactics, and initiatives to communicate value to customers and improve market access
- Lead the development of payer and channel customer business plans and negotiation strategy to drive access for appropriate patients
- Develops solutions for the customer facing team with any customer-specific product access or reimbursement issues
- Support negotiations with key assigned commercial/government payer and channel accounts
- Ensures continued positive payer coverage Chiesi products through refinement of existing strategies and collaboration with partner commercial operations functional leads to ensure effective implementation of those strategies
- Prepare required reimbursement education material for internal and external stakeholders
- Regularly communicate customer and market dynamics that impact the business to Chiesi USA leadership team for business planning purposes
- Provide market access support for pipeline assets development
- Contribute to government pricing considerations and reporting
- Ensure compliance with law requirements.
Strategic Development and Monitoring of Industry Trends
- Analyze and monitor emerging trends in US health care delivery to help guide and inform Chiesi strategic objectives and implementation of commercial functions
- Collaborates with internal functions to prepare to meet emerging industry trends.
- Updates personal job knowledge of people leadership and management by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks.
Administrative Duties & Compliance
- Stay current and in compliance both individually and as a Team. This includes all Chiesi Corporate Policies as well as mandated government regulations.
- Stay current and within compliance of Chiesi Travel & Expense Policy and procedures and ensure compliance of team.
- Track and manage expenses in line with budget.
- Stay current with and adhere to all Chiesi policies and procedures, culture and values as issued by Chiesi.
- Provide timely and accurate reporting and documentation as required
- Strictly adhere to administrative requirements as directed by company policy and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience Required
- 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience with a minimum of 3 years leadership responsibility over account facing teams.
- MBA or other advanced degree preferred
- 5-10 years of Market Access experience with US national, regional and state payers
- Solid experience in health economics, health insurance reimbursement, contracting and/or outcomes research, preferably in the respiratory diseases market space
- Strong understanding of the US payer environment, and dynamics; with expert knowledge of U.S. managed markets including commercial and government payers as well as key channel segments
- Established relationships with national payer and channel customers
- Track record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid payers. Successful track record managing activities through others.
- Strategic thinker experienced in working with commercial and financially oriented issues
- Builds and leverages strategic internal and external relationships to identify potential opportunities, partnerships, and opportunities to provide value and improve quality of care for providers and patients
- Experience in managing complex projects and delivering to deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in securing access and rapid coverage for launches of new products and indications (previous experience in rare diseases preferred)
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, exceptional listening skills, strong presentation skills, including translation of complex scientific concepts into simple language
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas
- Strong negotiating and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Willing to travel 50%
Education
• MBA or other advanced degree preferred
