Chiesi Global Rare Diseases

Chiesi Global Rare Diseases is a Chiesi Group’s business unit established in February 2020 and focused on research, development and commercialization of treatments and patient support services for rare and ultra-rare disorders, many of whom have limited or no treatments available.

 

This unit is based in Boston, Massachusetts, with a strong synergy with the headquarters in Parma. 

 

Rare unit has a focus on research and product development for lysosomal storage diseases, rare hematology, ophthalmology disorders and rare immunodeficiencies. The unit is also a dedicated partner with global leaders in scientific research, patient advocacy and care. Discover more here.

About this position: The position of Medical Affairs Manager reports to the Associate Director, Medical Strategy – Cardio-Metabolic, North America. 

 

This position is a member of the Global Medical Affairs team supporting the development and implementation of the products’ Global Medical strategy and acting as an internal subject matter expert within the therapeutic area. 

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Demonstrate scientific and business expertise, including products, disease state and management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape
  • Contribute to medical affairs strategy development and execute short to medium-term medical projects and initiatives under the leadership of the Associate Director, Medical Strategy– Cardio-Metabolic
  • Execute specific medical affairs activities within the cardio-metabolic portfolio in US and Canada, including support to data generation, conference planning and medical education events 
  • Help plan and conduct advisory boards and round table meetings 
  • Provide input and support to publication planning to ensure that data generated by company or (investigator) sponsored trials is publicly presented in an appropriate and timely fashion and in a fair and balanced manner
  • Coordinate scientific review and approval of medical materials in compliance with corporate standards and government/industry regulations
  • Manage medical materials preparation and review, facilitate meetings, gather and address comments from Medical Review Board members
  • Perform medical review on promotional materials
  • Support meetings with external key opinion leaders to obtain insights and guidance on clearly defined scientific/medical activities or plans
  • Represent Chiesi at meetings and conferences, and in other interactions with key opinion leaders in collaboration with other functions
  • Liaise with field medical team on key external relationships for ongoing project and engagement between the KOLs and medical affairs 
  • Manage project plans, assess resource needs and assist in other medical affairs responsibilities as needed

You will need to have

  • Scientific degree: MSc in life sciences, MD, PhD, PharmD or a nursing degree with relevant experience 
  • Able to work and align with multiple Chiesi-internal and external stakeholders and build and navigate within cross-functional Chiesi teams
  • Transfer and articulate scientific and clinical data into clear conceptual frameworks, disease management approaches and a pathway to continuously strengthen this concept by new medical evidence
  • Effective at giving presentations to internal and external audiences on the medical and clinical aspects of a given disease, product, or program
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment
  • Well-organized, operationally effective, and able to both develop project strategies and ensure reliable implementation of projects with a flexible and solution-focused mindset 
  • Proven planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities in combination with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment with a sense of urgency
  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining successful stakeholder relationships (internal and external)
  • Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and problem solving skills
  • This position may be filled as a Scientist or a Senior Scientist, depending on skills, education and experience

We would prefer for you to have

  • Experience in endocrinology, lipidology, cardiology, and/or rare disease
  • Experience in medical affairs operations, including working with cross-functional office-based and field-based teams

Compensation

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $142,110 to $173,690. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
